Solange Knowles has grown and evolved over the years into a huge creative takent that we see today

We clocked Solange’s rare eccentric talent all up and through the visuals of her album A Seat at the Table, and I remember being super hype when I learned that she’d be directing SZA’s music video for her single, “The Weekend.”

Baroque-Inspired Portraits Of Young Black Girls Highlighting Their Natural Hair Is Nothing Short Of Amazing

Afro Art is a series of stunning portraits that mixes the striking beauty of natural hair with elaborate clothing, inspired by the Baroque period

We are all full of natural beauty, we just need to bring it out. Regis and Kahran, a husband and wife team behind CreativeSoul did just that, only for young black ladies. Focusing on their hair, the duo created Afro Art, a series of gorgeous portraits that has cast a spell on everyone’s eyes.

“Unfortunately the lack of diversity often plays into the stereotypes that they are not ‘good enough’

”It aims to remind young girls across the world to embrace their true selves“We feel that it is so important for kids of color to be able to see positive images that look like them in the media”

“And we hope that girls around the world will be inspired to love their unique differences and beauty within”

“And [it] often forces kids to have low self-esteem”“We hope that viewers will see the beauty and versatility of afro hair”

Exclusive Interview : BET Actress Nicolette Ellis on Makeup x Breakup , Favorite Role , and Upcoming Projects

The state of Maryland is more than two hundred miles from New York, home of Jada Pinkett Smith and emerging actress/writer Nicolette Ellis. Nicolette Ellis is the star of BET New Digital Series Brooklyn. Blue. Sky and my personal favorite Makeup x Breakup recently chatted exclusively with eccentricglow.com to discuss her recent projects , favorite role and more

What can we expect from your character Brooke in Season 2 of Makeup and  Breakup?

Brooke in Season 2 is something I don’t think the audience will see coming, you begin to really understand WHY Brooke is the way she is and what made her into thinking the way she think is actually okay. I definitely appreciate that from the writer Eric Dickens for expanding not only Brooke’s mindset but everybody else’s. So you all in for a totally treat for the story as a whole in Season 2 of Makeup and Breakup!

You are a great actress in Makeup and Breakup , Mistakes and Situationships. What has been your favorite role so far?

Wow, my favorite role is probably Brooke. Even though I created Mistake, the character Maddie, I can still discover things about that character I never knew before. With Situationships, Robyn is a firecracker so she was super fun to portray. But Brooke in Makeup and Breakup has actually taught me not only things about myself but romantic relationships and friendships as a whole. So Brooke is definitely fun to dig into!

What role would you love to play that you haven’t yet?

Wow, I would love to play the young attorney on her grind to get to the top one day. Definitely!

What is something embarrassing or unexpected that happened to you on set?

Wow, I actually have more than you think, because you know its all trial and error! I think one time I was doing a reunion show and was totally late, running everywhere to get to the destination on time, was so frazzled, and I didn’t have anytime to get myself together so totally went with the flow and was more honest on things than I expected! So, with that being said that totally caught me off guard, unexpectedly!

Tell us about your future projects?

Well I’m starring in the new BET Digital Series Brooklyn. Blue. Sky. as Charisse set to premiere on 11/21 so PLEASE look out for that, I’m heading to Pittsburgh to be in the play The Girls of Summer as Laura James and writing some shorts and season 2 of Mistake, thats about it!

Barbie Just Launched Its First Hijab-Wearing Doll

Olympic fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad is making history again!

Mattel says that Muhammad, like Misty Copeland and Ava DuVernay before her, is a “shero.” Her doll is part of Barbie’s “Sheroes” collection, the company’s effort to create dolls after real-life role models.

“Barbie is celebrating Ibtihaj not only for her accolades as an Olympian, but for embracing what makes her stand out,” said Sejal Shah Miller, Barbie’s vice president of global marketing. “Ibtihaj is an inspiration to countless girls who never saw themselves represented, and by honoring her story, we hope this doll reminds them that they can be and do anything.”

As for Muhammad, she is more than excited at the honor. Having had to sew hijabs onto her dolls when she was a child, she is happy to see this landmark moment.

“When I was growing up, I didn’t have many options of dolls that looked like me,” she told the audience  at the Glamour Women of the Year Summit. “But today, we’re changing that.”

Muhammad is also the first Muslim-American woman to win an Olympic medal, taking a bronze in team saber at the 2016 Olympic games.

The Muhammad doll will be available starting in 2018.
