Netflix Cancels ‘She’s Gotta Have It’

She’s Gotta Have It

Netflix has canceled ‘She’s Gotta Have It.’

The Spike Lee-led series won’t return for a third season. Spike has plans to shop the series around to other outlets.

via Variety:

“Spike Lee is one of the greatest filmmakers of all time and we’re thrilled he brought the series ‘She’s Gotta Have It’ (1986, based on his first feature film) to Netflix,” said Ted Sarandos, chief content officer at Netflix. “While this is our last season, we’re very proud that it will be on our service for years to come, and excited to be working with Spike on his upcoming Netflix film ‘Da 5 Bloods.’”

Like the film on which it was based, the series followed free-spirited artist Nola Darling (DeWanda Wise). The series also starred Anthony Ramos, Ilfenesh Hadera, Cleo Anthony, Lyriq Bent, Margot Bingham, Chyna Layne, and Fat Joe. Season 1 of the series consisted of 10 episode, while Season 2 was nine. Lee personally directed every episode in his first foray into series television. Lee also executive produced along with Tonya Lewis Lee.

“Da 5 Bloods” is a war drama about a group of Vietnam veterans. The cast includes Chadwick Boseman, Delroy Lindo, Giancarlo Esposito, and Jean Reno. The film does not currently have a release date.

Netflix has been notoriously mum about releasing any kind of viewership numbers for their originals, but the streaming giant has said in the past that they evaluate shows on a viewing versus cost basis, meaning if a show does not prove a big enough draw with subscribers it will not continue.

Earlier on Wednesday, Netflix reported in their Q2 earnings that they had experienced a drop in their U.S. subscriber numbers for the first time in eight years. The company also saw 2 million fewer international subscribers than expected. The company said the numbers were the result of a weak content slate in the quarter as well as a price hike.

Im Soooo sad to see the series go 😥😥😥

Lashana Lynch Is The New 007 In The Next James Bond Film

No – your eyes not playing tricks on you! The new 007 is about to be a Black woman.

The next James Bond film will introduce British actress Lashana Lynch as the new 007.

via Metro:

James Bond fans will know that the spy retired at the end of Spectre and as Bond 25 opens he will be living a life of luxury in Jamaica.

However soon we will return to MI6 in London and the insider reveals that ‘there is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says “come in 007”, and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman’.

With Bond in retirement, it makes sense for the agency to pass on his codename to another agent, and we are here for it being a woman.

‘It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he’s been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman,’ the source told The Daily Mail.

This is certainly a moment Im here for and can’t WAIT to see!

Sadie Roberts-Joseph, Activist and Founder Of African American Museum, Found DEAD In The Trunk Of A Car

75-year-old Sadie Roberts-Joseph, a Louisiana activist who founded an African-American museum was found dead in the trunk of a car.

Investigators said Saturday they are working hard on the case and seeking suspects.

via ABC:

Sadie Roberts-Joseph, a Baton Rouge community activist who teamed up with police on an anti-drug and violence program, was found slain Friday afternoon when police were directed to a car parked in a residential neighborhood northeast of downtown Baton Rouge and discovered her body in the trunk, officials said.

“Our detectives are working diligently to bring the person or persons responsible for this heinous act to justice,” the Baton Rouge Police Department said in a statement.

Louisiana state Rep. C. Denise Marcelle called Roberts-Joseph an “amazing woman” who loved history.

“My heart is empty … as I learned last night that Ms. Sadie Roberts Joseph was found murdered!” Marcelle said in a statement posted on Facebook. “She never bothered anyone, just wanted to expand her African American Museum downtown, where she continually hosted the Juneteenth Celebration yearly. I loved working with her and am saddened by her death…. whoever knows what happened to her, please contact the authorities and say something.”

Police did not say how Roberts-Joseph, known as “Ms. Sadie” in her community, died, nor did they explain what led them to look in the trunk of the car parked about 3 miles from her home.

An autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death, police said.

Baton Rouge police officials called Roberts-Joseph a “tireless advocate of peace in the community.”

“Ms. Sadie is a treasure to our community. She will be missed by BRPD and her loss will be felt in the community she served,” police officials said in a statement posted on Facebook.

The victim’s sister, Beatrice Johnson, told The Advocate newspaper of Baton Rouge that Roberts-Johnson stopped by her house earlier on Friday. She said her sister lived near her in the Scotlandville neighborhood of Baton Rouge and would check in with her daily.

“Friday, she came by [because] she had mixed some cornbread, but her oven went out, and she brought it here to put in the oven,” Johnson told the newspaper. “The bread is still there. She never came back to get it.”

Roberts-Joseph helped found the Odell S. Williams Now and Then African-American History Museum in 2001. The museum, now known as the Baton Rouge African-American History Museum, is housed on the campus of New St. Luke Baptist Church in Baton Rouge.

She also organized the city’s annual Juneteenth festival at the museum, commemorating the abolition of slavery in the U.S., and partnered with Baton Rouge police to launch a Community Against Drugs and Violence program.

In a recent interview with ABC affiliate station WBRZ in Baton Rouge, Roberts-Joseph said her work at the museum and the annual Juneteenth event was meant “to celebrate, to embace” African American history and to “learn of our past and to be able to move forward in unity.”

Baton Rouge police are asking anyone with information on the case to contact homicide detectives immediately.

This is beyond ridiculous and sad. We need answers — and we need them NOW! Whoever did this needs to be brought to justice.

Nipsey Hussle’s Baby Mama Says She’s NOT An Bad Parent

Nipsey Hussle’s entire family has joined forces to get full custody of his 10-year-old daughter Emani, but her mother says that she’s perfectly capable of caring for her daughter.

via TMZ:

Tanisha Foster says in legal docs, obtained by TMZ, she and Nipsey shared responsibility for parenting 10-year-old Emani.

She seems to be rebutting the family’s contention she’s not capable of caring for the child, saying they are ignoring the fact Nipsey provided for her … setting her up in an apartment and providing for her livelihood. She’s insinuating she’s been cut off and that’s not what Nipsey would want.

She also says, she’s not the only person involved in the case with a “problem past,” but she says she’s choosing not to “sling mud.”

She says she can’t pay rent, she’s been cut off financially and is in desperate shape. Foster notes the lifestyle she and Emani were used to before Nipsey’s death won’t be the same … but she is willing to make it work to the best of her ability. She’s asking the judge to at least give her visitation rights

Foster says, “If everyone was truly interested in doing what is best for Emani, they would treat me as her mother and not in the manner that they have.

Nipsey’s family was awarded temporary custody of Emani, claiming Tanisha is an unfit mother.

I don’t feel like the family would be going through all this if they believed Emani was safe with her mother — do you?
