Comedy great Witherspoon was born in Detroit in 1942 as John Weatherspoon. Witherspoon also voiced Gramps on the cult animated series The Boondocks. He likely would’ve returned for the series’ upcoming revival on  HBO Max. Also known for his role as Pops on The Wayans Brothers, Witherspoon did stints on such comedy series as The Tracy Morgan Show, The First Family and Black Jesus.

Even with his busy film and TV career, standup comedy remained an important part of Witherspoon’s life. At age 77, he continued to perform regularly and had several dates coming up at the time of his death.

Rest In peace Pops . We will miss the legend.

Fatherhood : Wale Struggles With Connecting Emotionally To His Baby Girl

I know you couldn’t have missed it,  Wale’s new album Wow… That’s Crazy is super deep. It’s safe to say fans have heard what he’s been going through as he raps about his life experiences.

He said during an recent interview that he touches on many of his personal issues from being a thot to not feeling affection from his parents.

“I’m literally telling you I’m this troubled bachelor that’s like.. .I’m with all these beautiful women, trying to think what I’m gonna tell them when they get alone. I’m a glutton for women I shouldn’t yearn for… shouldn’t be tempted…or maybe I like to hurt, or maybe because I was searching to find me the perfect person…”

He said those experiences are what helped shape his new album.

“Now I’m carrying the bitterness… My parents never showed much, that’s like the foundation of where we’re going through the album. I’m struggling maneuvering through the industry. An industry that’s kind of broke me down, but an industry that I won’t let break me. I’m maneuvering through that, and I’m trying to understand my life better and live a better life and stay on the right track.”

Also during that conversation, he went more into detail about how his upbringing impacted him as a father, especially to a baby girl. Wale is father to three-year-old daughter Zyla Moon. Her mother is Wale’s ex-girlfriend, Chloe Alexis. “I never really talk about this about my daughter. I struggle, my baby’s mother is an amazing mother. But me, I struggle sometimes. And I didn’t know this was gonna happen.  When you have kids, you don’t know your true self for real, especially if you have a daughter. I didn’t know I was gonna struggle with connecting emotionally to a baby girl. I do feel it, but expressing it is so different. I didn’t realize it until I started talking to people and seeing professionals like, ‘You weren’t raised like that.’

“Sometimes how you’re raised doesn’t come into fruition until you start raising somebody. I never was like, ‘Oh! Gaga goo goo’ and all this other stuff. It’s love, but it’s how I do it. And the feeling is there. I know it’s cause I ain’t really come like… My mother never sent me to school [and] kissed me on the cheek, or kissed me goodnight… It was really just a fear. We love our parents and we respect them but it’s ‘Did you sweep the floor before I come home from work?’”

Chrisette Michele Reveals Why She Got Divorced

Chrisette Michele is opening up about her recent divorce. The “Epiphany” singer wed her manager at the time, Doug “Biggs” Ellison in 2016, before they split in 2018.

In details she tells the story that they tied the knot in Las Vegas and that while she had experienced much success by then, she was still very immature.

She shares,

Aston Martin Music drops. I’m in LA, a small-time millionaire, Grammy award-winning, and happily dating “grown-ups” but… I’m a child. A very successful… kid. Aaaaand, it literally never occurred to me that I’d missed a step until… Wedding Bells in Vegas (circa: 2016-2018). I walked down the aisle to “Love You Like A Love Song”, a techno club record TOTALLY meant for high heeled, couch dancing at LIV in Miami (or maybe Lavo in Vegas). Childish.”

She added after their divorce, she realized that he desired things that typically come with a traditional marriage (i.e. living in the same city and having children).

“I’m divorced now. I think I got married to try adulting on for size. Didn’t fit. My ex had latched onto the idea that adulting was a “thing”, and I’d never gotten the memo. Sure I brought home fairly large slabs of bacon, made up the bed and opened a few businesses but… it wasn’t until after we divorced that I realized he had the intentions of living in the same city, raising small opinionated beasts who would grow IN MY STOMACH, and eating at the same restaurant every Sunday.”

She ultimately revealed she’s not a fan of “settling down” at all.

“Apparently this soul quelling idea is called … “settling down”. Eeek… I just threw up in my mouth a little.”

“One of my girlfriends text me. She said, “I’m still hoping for magic for you.” She was talking about love. I wanted to say, “Is it ok for a woman not to be thinking about marriage for the same amount of time as any given man?”. I wanted to ask, “Is it enough for me to love traveling, meeting new people and long lavish walks thru Whole Foods?”. Am I “not grown-up”, if I’m not constantly wondering about love and a home for 2? To avoid experiencing normal “Yes I’m Judging You” thoughts from my home gurl, I said, “I’m not pressed”. To recreate my whole existence to fit into someone else’s? And then be stuck in one place forever? Yeah. No. Not right now.”

Chrisette, who shared that her own parents have been married for nearly 40 years, adding that she’s not against having “A Couple of Forevers” in her own life in the future, but she’s not after it right now.

Maybe I’ll be SHOCKED into a Couple of Forevers. My love language is touch and I love to cuddle. Love is…nice. I’m open minded. I’ll try new things… but ummm… it’s quite likely too late that I’ll ever grow up. I skipped over that part of my twenties and I’m not sure you ever get that back. I’m “humaning” (stole that ”word” from a pal). This is MY human experience. I’m patient enough to watch my life unfold, trust God to forgive, reveal and restore and move forward. I fall. I get embarrassed. I stay at moms, eat good, then take my vitamins and get back out there. Am I “on the market”? You can’t buy me. Am I “single”? I’m complete. Loving me is complicated, mostly because I’m content. Kids don’t love people because they have a nice house and diamonds. Kids love people because they smile, laugh at their jokes, spend time on the couch and at the movies. I’m a kid that way… don’t need anything but the simple, beautiful, present human.”

And from the sounds of it, sis just fine with being single ….LET HER BE!

Cleaning House : Ari Lennox Is Looking For New Management And Lawyer

Ari Lennox‘s team a whole MESS.? Apparently the Dreamville starlet with one of the best albums
this year is looking to replace both her lawyer and manager. She took to Twitter to break some ppl off:

“LOOKING FOR A LAWYER AND NEW MANAGEMENT.”

She continued:

“I’m so happy to know who truly cares about my well being. It’s d*mn sure not certain people that I thought…People want to be there for the accolades but not the real grind. People love you when you’re the sweet baby doll but not when you’re human. Don’t want no more fake soulless sh*t around me.”

Just weeks ago, she shockingly declared that she was over the music industry, saying that she was done performing live.

Ari tweeted:

“After this year I’ll continue to drop music. But I’m not performing anymore outside of ig live or YouTube. God is good. I will pay back what was offered to me but literally I’m too thorough to be playing with my energy. People don’t know what happens behind the scenes.”

But, when her fellow industry newbie, Summer Walker, expressed the same feelings – she, ironically, encouraged her to keep going

The music industry is like a drug , once yo7 try it if your not strong its will F*CK you up!
