Versace Sues Fashion Nova Over Jennifer Lopez Famous Dress Rip-Off

Fashion Nova done messed with the wrong designer this time.

The fashion brand tried their hand at knocking off the iconic Versace dress Jennifer Lopez wore to the 2000 Grammy Awards — and Versace is suing.

via Complex:

Versace has filed a suit with Fashion Nova for ripping off J.Lo’s Grammy gown, as well as a few other designs. The Italian design house labels Fashion Nova as a fast-fashion movement—a.k.a. scammers. In court documents, Versace calls Fashion Nova a “serial infringer specializing in ‘fast-fashion’ knock-offs.” Versace also points to the famous people who have worn their designs, including Princess Diana, Princess Caroline, Elton John, Lady Gaga and Liz Hurley.

The suit also says that Fashion Nova has been sued at least eight times for this type of alleged wrongdoing, including a suit from Adidas.

Versace says it originally warned the fast-fashion company in July 2019, but when nothing happened Versace decided to take the matter to court. The design house is suing Fashion Nova for profits off Versace replicas, and to get an injunction blocking further sales and damages.

In December 2018, the Los Angeles fashion company Riot Society alleged that Fashion Nova stole a Panda bear and rose design, which the company claimed they copyrighted, according to The Blast. Riot Society sent a cease and desist letter to Fashion Nova in June 2018 but never heard back. They sued $150,000 for infringement and demanded all profits that were made off the design

Viola Davis Thoughts On The ‘Ridiculous’ Idea of Julia Roberts Playing Harriet Tubman: I’m ‘Concerned’

Viola Davis is responding to the news that a studio executive once suggested Julia Roberts to play abolitionist Harriet Tubman in a movie about her life.

via People:

“It happens all of the time [in Hollywood],”
Davis, 54, recently told MadameNoire when asked to comment.

“Here’s the thing, simply put: Julia Roberts as Harriet Tubman is ridiculous,” she said. “That barely warrants a response. That’s ridiculous. I understand that the film industry very much is about commerce and money, I get it. But that’s ridiculous.”

Roberts was never involved in the project.

Last week, screenwriter Gregory Allen Howard — who co-wrote the screenplay for this year’s Tubman biopic Harriet — wrote a column in the Los Angeles Times. In the column, he revealed that a studio head had suggested Roberts to play the titular role — and appeared not to know that Tubman was a black woman.

“Fortunately, there was a single black person in that studio meeting 25 years ago who told him that Harriet Tubman was a black woman,” Howard wrote. “The president replied, ‘That was so long ago. No one will know that.’”

Davis added that she is “always a little concerned that the people who are questioned about race and diversity and inclusion, are the people in need and not the people in power.

“You don’t question the people who have not been invited to the party, you question the people who are throwing the party,” she continued. “And the people who are out there who are living in any way, even within this industry, who have the green light vote, who have the power to finance films, who are making those choices to want to cast a Julia Roberts as a Harriet Tubman, this is a better question for them.”

“Why is it that you are not armed with enough information and why you don’t see it as important to cast a Black woman as Harriet Tubman? Why is it that you would want to make this decision?” Davis said, adding, “You can go through the history books and see that Harriet Tubman was a Black woman.”

For his own sake we glad he didnt produce the film. Im anxious for someone to reveal who is is

Gabrielle Union Fired From ‘America’s Got Talent’ After Speaking Out Against ‘Problematic’ Racism, Sexism and More

Apparently there’s a lot more to the story than what was officially announced.

Gabrielle’ firing came as a result of her speaking up about ‘problematic’ situations.

“[Gabrielle’s] contract was not renewed after being the #1 talent on the show, NBC and network TV. She set the record for her Golden Buzzer. They only replace the women and blacks at Simon’s whim. She wouldn’t walk away from $12 million because she’s ‘busy.’ Based on weekly interactions on social media, by the time AGT finale aired Gabrielle was the #1 talent on network TV for 2019. Why not pick up someone’s option in extreme success?”

The NBC sources continue:

“Social media engagement is the new measuring stick for talent and Simon isn’t on social media. Juliane and Gabrielle were both way higher ranked/engaged than Howie. The idea the network wants to ‘switch things up’ only applies to women and Black folks.

Nick Cannon wasn’t crazy. He walked away from 8-figures over how [AGT] operates.”

Back in 2017, Nick Cannon took to Facebook to announce that he was ‘threatened with termination by executives’ after he made a racial joke about NBC on his Showtime stand-up special. He quit his job as host of ‘America’s Got talent’ prior to the 12th season, saying “My soul won’t allow me to be in business with corporations that attempt to frown on freedom of speech, censor artists, and question cultural choices.”

Gabrielle’s firing is merely a continuation of their problematic tendencies.

“Let’s just say they didn’t start the racism, homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia etc. in season 14. They were quite comfortable with it all by the time Gabrielle got there. Remember Nick said ‘NBC stands for N*gga Be Careful.’”

Keep in mind that Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum and Mel B, all left the show last year. It’s not the first time Simon’s been accused of misogyny — so, if true, we can’t imagine racism being far behind.

John Singleton Wanted To Create Lil Kim Biopic Before He Passed

John Singleton was in talks of creating a Lil Kim biopic before he transitioned!

During her visit to The Real Thursday (Nov. 7) Lil Kim told the world that he approached her about it.

The rapper said,

“I’ve gotten so many offers. I’m talking, major offers… even BET, Lifetime, Lionsgate. But the thing is, I had to be ready, and I think now I’m ready to tell the story.”

She said Singleton was the one who wanted to tell it.

“Him and I went [to a party]. He was like, ‘I want you to be my celebrity date.’ But I knew what that meant. He wants to talk, right? So he said to me, ‘Kim, why aren’t we doing this movie? You’re a walking best-seller.’ And I was like, ‘Well, I’m waiting for you.’”

She added that she wouldn’t have it any other way, but unfortunately, he passed before they were able to make it happen.

“I said to him, I always said if I did a movie about my life, I’m not doing it with anybody but you. And then he passed away.”

Singleton passed away in April after suffering a massive stroke. The iconic film and TV series director was the brains behind classics like Boyz n the Hood, Poetic Justice and Baby Boy just to name a few

Summer Walker Is Done , Y’all Can Have The Music & I’ma Head Out’

In a lengthy post shared on social media, Summer Walker vented that she’s not just over it, she’s done with the music industry.

It’s just been a couple of weeks since her first album Over It made its debut. But now Summer is quitting music.

She wrote,

“na fr though I’ve decided y’all don’t deserve me lol I knew from day one I was to real for this s***. y’all can have the music & ima just head out. f*** the interviews, photo shoots, videos, & really the shows too.”

Fortunately for her fans, she said she’ll finish her tour, but warned that we won’t hear much from her after that.

“I’ll finish this tour out tho. I’m just a regular person, nothing more. lol people got this fame s*** f***ed up. I been me from day one, I’m not bout to start acting different, talking different, treating people different, or looking different. people really expect too much from you.”

She added,

“Everyday / everything isn’t a miss America bad b**** contest, & I don’t feel the need to put others down to stay relevant. people really just DISCONNECTED…. hiding behind these apps, these filters, the clothes, the makeup, the hair lol a lot of y’all need to step back & get into yourselves.. from a different perspective. take the same amount of time that you normally do to prepare/improve your physical but apply it to your spirit & become COMFORTABLE with the real you, whoever that may be as long as your not hurting anyone

She went on to say that fans need to be more worried about self-acceptance than securing the bag.

“That same amount of time you take to chase the “bag” try putting that same amount of energy into patience, acceptance, understanding, self awareness, self love but I know no one gives a shit about what I’m saying so yeah. peace love & light”
