Fashion & Style 411 : Not Carrie Bradshaw

20161227_120801

Meet Fashion Storyteller Jessica of NotCarrieBradshaw http://notcarriebradshaw.com/ She’s an 29 years old blogger from Atlanta. Jessica has lived in New York for four years now pursuing a career in fashion. She has always loved fashion, but never thought to pursue it as a career. Jessica had a few spaces in her schedule during senior year of college at Georgia Southern University, so her advisor had her take about three fashion courses. She decided from there that she wanted to pursue a career in fashion, but wasn’t willing to start over with school at the time. Jessica looked for fashion internships in Atlanta to no avail. So she started a rather unsuccessful styling company. She was working two jobs, and trying to establish herself as a stylist, and was failing miserably. Jessica realized that if she was serious about fashion, she would need to move to New York, and further her fashion education. With mom in tow Jessica visited the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, and fell in love with the school. Moving there with little to no money. What little Jessica had family and friends gave her, and she slept on her line sister’s couch for a semester. Jessica’s last semester at FIT, she interned at Oscar de la Renta in the merchandising department. After graduating she got the opportunity to work as a freelance fashion writer, and that’s where she found her lane. Working at Burberry, then Coach, but she found much more freedom and fulfillment as a writer, so that’s what she’s been focused on ever since. Through her website she’s been able to write about my experiences living, dating, and working in New York. She also enjoy writing about fashion in a way that makes it easily accessible and less intimidating to people. Im so excited Jessica agreed to be featured here on Eccentric GLOW ,check out her chat below ❤❤❤

Question 1: So when’s the first time you fell in love with FASHION?

NotCarrieBradshaw – can’t recall ever not loving it really. The first time I recall feeling the power of fashion was in kindergarten. My mom took immense pride in the way she dressed my brother and I, so I was always dressed to the 9’s for everything. I wish I could remember the specific outfit I wore to school that day, but whatever it was my teacher was astounded by how impeccably I was dressed. So much so that she sent me down the hallway to the other teacher’s classes so they could see it. It was the first time I saw how differently people respond to you when you are dressed well.

Question 2 : Do you have a signature STYLE?

NotCarrieBradshaw- I don’t know if I have a signature style. I wish I were that committed to one particular look, but alas I am not. I would like to think that I mix the edgy with the classic. I wear heels as often as reasonably possible, and I almost always wear a red lip. I feel the most secure when I am wearing my matte red lipstick.

20161227_120834

Question 3: Who is your favorite DESIGNER?

NotCarrieBradshaw – That’s so hard to say, because designers are often changing their direction. If I had to choose I would say Alexander Vauthier. His clothes are provocative, yet classy, and ultra-feminine with a touch of edge. There’s always this duality of woman at play in his designs. I love that concept, because it shows that we can be multi-dimensional. You can be sexy and classy, you can be smart and fun, etc.

Question 4 : Who is your current STYLE crush?

NotCarrieBradshaw – I have been style crushing on Shiona Turini for years, and I love Kahlana Barfield Brown’s style. They both have such a great knowledge of their bodies, and fashion as a whole, and it shows in that they really know what works and doesn’t work for them. Their looks are always polished with just a dash of street flair to them. Perfect balance. I also love Tracee Ellis Ross. Her personality shines through in her style, and that’s really a part of the function of fashion in some way. It allows you to tell a little bit about who you are without saying anything. There’s power in that if you choose to use it.

20161227_120744

Question 5: How do you pick the ensembles you display?

NotCarrieBradshaw- Very intentionally. I’m not a blogger who relies heavily on labels, or even photos. I lean on my word content more than anything. I think I am a writer before I am a “fashion girl,” and I like to make fashion approachable and easily accessible to my readers, because some people find it so intimidating. For that reason I pick looks that can tell a good story that makes sense. The look has to enable me to give valuable fashion advice to my readers.

Question 6 : What are some of your favorite boutiques to get your fashionable pieces?

I am such an 80’s baby, so I still love department stores. I love the original Bloomingdale’s here in New York, the Macy’s at Herald Square (even though it’s a tourist trap) for quality pieces. For trendy items I go to the usual Zara, H&M, and for basics I like Uniqlo. If I have extra cash, I love Ted Baker (on sale of course). I first fell in love with that brand when I worked as a personal shopper in Atlanta, and worked for them after I graduated from FIT. I hate working retail, but I loved learning about all of the extra effort they put into creating these feminine, classic pieces. Intermix is a dope store as well. Their collections are expertly curated in such a way that lets you know they know their customers. Recently I have fallen in love with Rent the Runway for making quality clothing accessible.

Fashion & Style 411 : Tricky Vibes

20161201_195218

Meet Alisha Jones-Cotton a life and style blogger of Trickyvibes.com. Alisha’s blog is humorous, empowering, and covered in street art. She was born and raised in the Carolinas so she’s a southern girl at heart. As a military spouse she has enjoyed traveling around the country and finding inspiration everywhere she go. Alisha wants all readers to feel encouraged and confident in their fashionable clothing and throughout their lives.

Question 1: So when’s the first time you fell in love with FASHION?

TrickyVibes – Unlike most bloggers I fell in love with fashion quite recently- I would say even within the past few years. I have always loved reading fashion magazines and modeling but I didn’t fall in love with FASHION until I learned to appreciate my body and feel more confident about my self-worth.

Question 2 : Do you have a signature STYLE?

TrickyVibes – My style is ever-changing! Some days I love classic and timeless looks, and other days I am 90’s grunge. When I wake up every morning I decide how I feel then pick clothes that match! I am sure this sounds silly but its true.

Question 3: Who is your favorite DESIGNER?

TrickyVibes – Its a toss-up between Michael Kors and the design team of H & M. I love a designer with a backstory- and we all know that Michael Kors almost went bankrupt and then re-emerged like a phoenix in the fashion world. H & M is always on top of the latest trends and constantly collaborating with high-end brands (and artists) to make pieces more affordable for all. I am so excited about their collaboration with the The Weeknd in the coming year.

Question 4 : Who is your current STYLE crush?

TrickyVibes – My current style crush is Micah Gianelli, She is an Australian blogger who SLAYS every outfit she puts on! I like her because her style is constantly changing just like mine and she cannot be put into a box.

Question 5: How do you pick the ensembles you display?

TrickyVibes – I am always picking my clothes based on the most flattering pieces and mixing in 1 or 2 trending pieces to make my outfit pop. Fit and trend are first on the list to be picked everyday.

Question 6 : What are some of your favorite boutiques to get your fashionable pieces?

TrickyVibes – I love H&M, also Windsor Store, Azure Boutique, Tj.Maxx, annnd- Target. Target is so affordable but always on trend. I cannot remind folks enough about the goodies I get from Target! Great for basic pieces if you are building a capsule wardrobe.
