The makeup powerhouse and Issa both announced their partnership this morning.

“My character is ever-evolving, and makeup is a tool to help transform my persona – whether for a role I play in content that I produce, or the different roles I take on in my life,” said Issa in an official statement. “Becoming a COVERGIRL means a lot because the brand recognizes just how important it is for people to embrace their individuality and express themselves in unique and diverse ways. This has been a major part of my personal journey, and a message that I want to share with others.”

Recently , Covergirl announced beauty Vlogger, Nura Afia as the newest ambassador for their new So Lashy! BlastPro Mascara.

Afia told CNN:

It’s a big accomplishment for all of us…It means that little girls that grew up like me have something to look up to. I grew up feeling like hijab would hold me back.

She also told Refinery 29,

I hope [this campaign] will show Muslim women that brands care about us as consumers and we’re important, especially hijabis.

Afia’s ambassadorship means she’ll appear in commercials and on a billboard in Times Square. More importantly, however, her alignment with this very American and very recognizable brand will, undoubtably, help to remove the stigma and fear many people still hold against those who practice Islam.

I’m doing this because I want there to be a time when my daughter grows up when she knows she can be anything she wants to be…It doesn’t matter what her beliefs are or what she looks like.
