Beyoncé Announces Scholarships for Historically Black Colleges and Universities

Just days after her epic Coachella performance, Beyoncé announced the four new schools benefiting from the second installment of the BeyGOOD Initiative’s Homecoming Scholars Award program (previously the Formation Scholars Award program).

One student from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) Xavier University, Wilberforce University, Tuskegee University and Bethune-Cookman University, will receive $25,000 for the 2018-2019 academic year.

via Rolling Stone:

Ivy McGregor, Director of Philanthropy and Corporate Relations at Parkwood Entertainment, which houses BeyGOOD, said the program salutes “the rich legacy of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.” She added, “We honor all institutions of higher learning for maintaining culture and creating environments for optimal learning which expands dreams and the seas of possibilities for students.”

Beyoncé established the scholarship in April 2017 to mark the one-year anniversary of her 2016 visual LP, Lemonade. While the first year spotlighted young women, the 2018-2019 year will expand to all qualifying students at the four universities, regardless of gender.

The associated disciplines will include literature, creative arts, African American studies, science, education, business, communications, social sciences, computer science and engineering. Applicants must maintain a 3.5 or better GPA. The four universities will select all finalists and winners, with recipients announced this summer.

Beyoncé honored the history of HBCUs during her headlining Coachella set on Saturday, incorporating over 150 musicians and dancers – including a marching band and choir – into her detailed set, which also included guest spots from Jay Z, Solange and her former Destiny’s Child members.

Diddy Creating App To Help People Find Black-Owned Businesses

Diddy Is Working on an App to Help Us Locate Black-Owned Businesses

Diddy has a plan to strengthen the Black community in his own way.

via Complex:

Asked to reveal what kept him inspired decades into his career, Diddy pointed to the importance of culture. “I want to be an authentic, unapologetic warrior for black culture and the culture of the street and how it moves,” he said. “My thing is most importantly to change the narrative of the black race. I can’t relate to anything that isn’t about that.”

According to GQ, Diddy is working on an app that will allow users to easily find black-owned and black-friendly businesses in any given city or neighborhood. Diddy said the as-yet-untitled app will make an “economic community” possible. “It’s about blacks gaining economic power,” he said.

In the latest issue of GQ magazine, Diddy opened up about a recent conversation he had with Jay-Z.

Diddy’s recent conversations with Jay have centered on the idea of black excellence, which for them means putting money they earn back into their respective communities. “We’re into psychological warfare,” he said. “The difference is, we’re not trying to hurt nobody.”

Its never too late. Im so here for anything designed to help the Black community.

Jay-Z Recreates ‘Friends’, Starring Issa Rae, Tiffany Haddish, Jerrod Carmichael For ‘Moonlight’

Jay-Z has used the classic sitcom Friends as inspiration for his new video, “Moonlight.” Directed by Alan Yang, the African American version of Friends featured an ensemble of A-list actors and comedians including Jerrod Carmichael who played Ross; Issa Rae who played Rachel, Lil Rel Howery who played Joey, Hannibal Burress who played himself, Tessa Thompson who played Monica and Tiffany Haddish who played Phoebe.

This was soooo a dope idea. I know im not the only who thought this was pure genius and so for the culture 😎😎😎

I certainly MADE IT 💯 survived it all!

Its been 4 months since I moved back to Vegas from New York. I was truly blessed with all the opportunities I had received in New York and nothing has changed but my address. I was extremely blessed that I could still do everything I was doing there from home. There is nothing like HOME.

Being from Vegas your SPOILED , im SPOILED! The cost of living is way cheaper , VEGAS is clean , no rats , no trains etc the list could go on and on. Vegas and New York is both money cities but they don’t compare …. they couldn’t compare. One thing I loved in New York was the culture. Seeing so many great events and festivities for my ppl was so awesome , I was overjoyed. Vegas is slowly getting culture but its no where near NY , they have parades and events for almost every thing. Them Jamaican , Haitian and Trinidad ppl know how to party. Its a very huge island base in Brooklyn where I was living.

I will say I loved the almost 2 year experience ❤ everybody should experience NY in some way or another. That void is filled , its out my system and I have no regrets.I would never make it my home but a long summer vacation wouldn’t be so bad. Through it all im so thankful I had my sister by my side during this adventure. I wouldn’t have done it without her in the big city all alone

I’ll always remember what my homeboy told me when I moved to NY. He said ” Always look up its beautiful here but when you look around shit aint sweet , dont believe the hype!”
