Gabrielle Union Fired From ‘America’s Got Talent’ After Speaking Out Against ‘Problematic’ Racism, Sexism and More

Apparently there’s a lot more to the story than what was officially announced.

Gabrielle’ firing came as a result of her speaking up about ‘problematic’ situations.

“[Gabrielle’s] contract was not renewed after being the #1 talent on the show, NBC and network TV. She set the record for her Golden Buzzer. They only replace the women and blacks at Simon’s whim. She wouldn’t walk away from $12 million because she’s ‘busy.’ Based on weekly interactions on social media, by the time AGT finale aired Gabrielle was the #1 talent on network TV for 2019. Why not pick up someone’s option in extreme success?”

The NBC sources continue:

“Social media engagement is the new measuring stick for talent and Simon isn’t on social media. Juliane and Gabrielle were both way higher ranked/engaged than Howie. The idea the network wants to ‘switch things up’ only applies to women and Black folks.

Nick Cannon wasn’t crazy. He walked away from 8-figures over how [AGT] operates.”

Back in 2017, Nick Cannon took to Facebook to announce that he was ‘threatened with termination by executives’ after he made a racial joke about NBC on his Showtime stand-up special. He quit his job as host of ‘America’s Got talent’ prior to the 12th season, saying “My soul won’t allow me to be in business with corporations that attempt to frown on freedom of speech, censor artists, and question cultural choices.”

Gabrielle’s firing is merely a continuation of their problematic tendencies.

“Let’s just say they didn’t start the racism, homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia etc. in season 14. They were quite comfortable with it all by the time Gabrielle got there. Remember Nick said ‘NBC stands for N*gga Be Careful.’”

Keep in mind that Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum and Mel B, all left the show last year. It’s not the first time Simon’s been accused of misogyny — so, if true, we can’t imagine racism being far behind.

Kenan Thompson Gets His Own Show at NBC, ‘Saving Larry’ ; MIGHT Leave ‘SNL’

Kenan Thompson has been holding down ‘Saturday Night Live’ for the last 15 years and now he’s finally getting his own show.

via Deadline:

In one of the biggest deals for a comedy project so far this season, NBC has given a production commitment to Saving Larry, a single-camera comedy starring Thompson. It hails from SNL creator/executive producer Lorne Michaels and his Broadway Video as well as Superstore executive producer Jackie Clarke.

Thompson, who recently told Deadline that he says he’d happily stay on Saturday Night Live “forever,” likely would leave the show — at least as a full-time cast member — should Saving Larry goes to series as the two would be difficult to juggle.

Written by Clarke, Saving Larry centers on a dad (Thompson) who, after his wife dies, has to be both mother and father to his kids. And he has to do it all with his father-in-law hovering over him.

Thompson, a married father of two, and Clarke executive produce with Michaels and Andrew Singer for Broadway Video. Universal Television, where Broadway Video has a deal, is the studio.

Last year Thompson officially became the longest-running SNL cast member, with 15 seasons under his belt. He started on the show in 2003 as its youngest performer. This year Thompson landed his first acting Emmy nomination for his work on the sketch comedy series, where he is known for such popular sketches as “What Up With That?” and “Black Jeopardy!”, along with his impressions of Steve Harvey hosting Family Feud, Al Sharpton and Bill Cosby. Thompson, who just won a Music and Lyrics Emmy for SNL‘s “Come Back Barack”, is repped by UTA, Michael Goldman and Del Shaw.

Yass! Im so happy for Kenan

Tiffany Haddish also won an Emmy — Guest Actress in a Comedy Series —  for hosting Saturday Night Live.

All four guest acting categories went to Black actors — Katt, Tiffany, Ron Cephas Jones (This Is Us) and Samira Wiley (The Handmaid’s Tale) each took home trophies.

The main Emmys ceremony will take place September 17 and air on NBC. We can’t wait to see more Black talent get recognized!
