After having a little bad luck as the Best New Artist at this year’s Grammy Awards, she was able to snag a major Win last night. At the BET Awards ceremony held on June 24, the TDE singer-songwriter took home the Best New Artist award, one of the four awards she was nominated for.

Informing us that it was the first award she’s ever won in public, SZA expressed some words of wisdom in her brief acceptance speech – “Follow your passion, ignore everyone.”

The BET Best New Artist Award follows more good news for the artist – she’ll be joining Queen Lauryn Hill on tour and her vocal chords are not permanently damaged.
