I had a break down before i walked into the most nerve wrecking casting of my life. I asked my driver to go around the block twice before i could walk into the @VictoriasSecret offices so i could re coup, and remember (while my trainer @bodybymato reminded me on the phone through sobs – thank you lol) how hard I’ve been working! I went in and made new friends and saw old friends and it already felt like home! We patiently waited while @ed_razek @johndavidpfeiffer @monica.mitro @10magazine carefully took time to get to know each girl. When it was finally my time, within my nervous storm of anticipation i changed into a black Victoria Secret set and stepped out!!!! I spoke to them about Jamaica, @nick_knight , my abs, and how i was beyond honoured to be given the opportunity to try out.. then I walked for my life!!!! I can’t believe this!! Thank you for giving me all the energy and kindness in that room! Thank you for allowing me to walk for VICTORIA’S SECRET! Thank you to my agencies @firstaccessent @womenmanagementnyc @women_paris @thesquadmanagement my pr @remibrb my agent @mannyuk and mama bears #sarahstennett & @thelilmisse for having my back supporting and believing in me! I love you guys you’re FAMILY!! Thank you mommy for praying with me everyday for the past 3 days. And thank you so much to my fans who have been pushing me forward to this point in my career. I’m so blessed thank you Lord!! IM WALKING THE VICTORIA’S SECRET SHOW! Thank you Vogue for the exclusive interview 😭🙏🏽💗🙈

Since appearing on America’s Next Top Model in 2014, Harlow has cultivated an unapologetic social presence and has regularly walked for coveted fashion houses across the world. As a body-positive activist, she has spoken openly of her vitiligo, a skin condition that causes pigmentation loss in certain patches of the skin. Winnie declared that it has been her dream to walk for Victoria’s Secret and the 5.5 million viewers the show has amassed. “Why is there a stigma around being different when we’re all different?” Harlow said. “It’s the pinnacle of my career…I told anyone [who] asked, ‘I want Victoria’s Secret!’”

Naomi Campbell Will Be Honored with 2018 CFDA Fashion Icon Award

Naomi Campbell has been a fashion icon for decades, but in 2018 she’ll officially be recognized by the Council of Fashion Designers of America

via Complex:

On Thursday, the Council of Fashion Designers of America announced Campbell would receive the highly coveted Fashion Icon Award at the June 4 CFDA Awards in Brooklyn. The legendary model expressed her gratitude for the honor, as well as all the support she’s received from the American fashion industry.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized by the CFDA with this year’s Fashion Icon Award,” she said in a statement to the CFDA. “Being from London, my personal style has always been tremendously influenced by both the dynamic, ever-changing nature of street culture and the music scene. I grew up in this industry and I’m forever grateful to the iconic American fashion designers who have supported me and celebrated me throughout my career.”

Nearly a decade after she made her first “public appearance” in Bob Marley’s 1978 “Is This Love” music video, Campbell landed a contract with Synchro Model Agency at the age of 15. She would go onto become one of the most recognizable faces in the industry, appearing on runways for Chanel, Versace, Valentino, and Victoria’s Secret. She was also the first black model to appear on the covers of Vogue Russia and France as well as Time magazine.

“From enfant prodige to Goddess of Fashion,” CFDA Chairwoman Diane von Furstenberg said. “Naomi represents beauty, activism and joie de vivre.”

Previous Fashion Icon Award recipients include Rihanna, Pharrell, Beyoncé, and Lady Gaga.
